Foundations of Lutheran Teaching

Fall 2026-27 Cohorts NOW Enrolling!

FLT is grateful to announce that we have opened enrollment for our third West Coast (Pacific) cohort as well as initiating our first cohort from the Michigan District for 2026-27.

What is FLT?

FLT is a cross-district (PSD, CNH, NOW, MiD) initiative to equip educators in our Lutheran schools to be transformational teachers of the Lutheran faith, resulting in longevity at and employability across districts, creating a consistent Lutheran ethos in ministry, and further uniting school and church ministry. Through the program, spiritual self-care is prioritized, resulting in the fruits of the spirit being evident in the classrooms and beyond.

FLT does not replace Colloquy. This is an application-focused curriculum for non-Lutheran teachers and those for whom Colloquy is not an option, so that all classrooms integrate the faith to the fullest potential.

How Does It Work?

Formative Learning Through Online Cohorts

MTC implements a web-based version of the "flipped classroom" teaching strategy. In this model, participants become a part of an online cohort. Each week they view short videos, read articles or textbooks, discuss their reflections together online, and work on assignments independently. They then meet regularly with their instructors in an online video session to discuss material and develop skills.

Five Foundational Courses

Over the course of the school year teachers are introduced to Lutheran doctrine and the Christ-centered biblical narrative, while also being guided to develop their own personal spiritual habits and faith practices. The sequence concludes by preparing educators to understand student faith development across different ages and to translate that knowledge into effective, mission-driven Bible teaching in the classroom.

Supporting Busy Teachers

Our model creates a supportive environment where participants grow in awareness of Lutheran doctrine & pedagogical practices through individual and group reflection exercises so that they begin to integrate content into their classroom practices.

Participants are expected to spend 40 minutes per week learning content and 20 minutes participating in online chats. Two or three one hour group workshops are held over zoom in the evenings for each course.

How Much Does It Cost?

Five Courses for $1250.00

Foundations of Lutheran Teaching is meant to be a comprehensive program of 5 courses taken during the school calendar year (10 months). Participants enroll with the expectation that they will complete the entire sequence.

The total cost for one person is $1250.00

Payments may be made in installments of $250.00 for each course.
